Excerpt: Batman action figures have been produced since the 1940s. The character, whom has encompassed comic books, animated series, movies, and other media, has had more action figures produced in his likeness than nearly any other fictional character in existence. In early to mid 1940s the only examples of Batman figures were lead figurines of Robin and Batman which were given away as carnival prizes at local fairs. The Marx Toy Company produced the first ever poseable Batman action figure in the mid 1960′s. It stood about 4″ tall and came with a multitude of accessorises among them bat – cuffs, batarangs, and a fire extinguisher. Very few remain in existence and it is one of the holy grails for any Batman toy collector. In 1966, the Ideal Toy Company launched a line of super hero action figures called Captain Action in response to Hasbro’s popular G.I. Joe line which followed the standard scale of 12″. The Captain Action figure came dressed with a cloth super hero costume, hat, ray gun, and sword, ready for kids to enjoy. But parents could also buy additional super hero costumes that were sold separately. Kids could take Captain Action’s costume off and replace it with one of several super hero costumes based on famous comic book characters. Also in 1966, ABC television launched a live action Batman (TV series) . Because of Batman’s growing success in the mid ’60′s, a Batman costume was included in Captain Action’s arsenal. This Batman costume was detailed with a horizontally striped cape as well as a black and gold chest emblem (the costume set was available with both metal and decal chest emblems). Batman’s accessories included a blue Batarang, flash light, and drill which could attach to the utility belt. In 1967, Ideal released a partner figur… More:

The film is loosely based upon the Archie comic of the same name. Wyatt Frame (Alan Cumming) is a record executive working for record label MegaRecords. The label, headed by the trendy and scheming Fiona (Parker Posey), pumps out pop bands and, through an arrangement with the United States government, get teens to buy their records and follow “a new trend every week” by putting subliminal messages under the music. The Government’s motive in the scheme is to help build a robust economy from the “wads of cash” teenagers earn from babysitting and minimum wage jobs. When a member of Wyatt’s wildly successful boy band, Du Jour, uncovers one such subliminal message and asks Wyatt about it aboard their private jet, Wyatt parachutes out with the pilot, leaving the plane to crash and apparently killing Du Jour. Wyatt lands just outside the town of Riverdale, and meets Josie (Rachael Leigh Cook), Melody (Tara Reid), and Valerie (Rosario Dawson), the financially struggling The Pussycats. He offers them a lucrative record deal and flies them off to New York City where they are renamed Josie and the Pussycats. All goes well, with instant popularity for the band until Valerie gets frustrated that the focus of the band is not on them as a whole, but rather Josie. Melody, too simple to notice the attention Josie receives, uses her uncanny behavioral perception and becomes suspicious of Fiona and Wyatt. Because of these suspicions, an… More:
